| Change Respond to Reply in
all Discussion Directions |
Many of
the courses have directions asking students to click on Respond.
There is no Respond in ANGEL. You need to go through your all
your course discussions and make sure you have not included directions
for you students to click on Respond. I have also provided a a link to detailed directions that show the students how to use the ANGEL discussion forums. |

| Conversion Process did not
maintain my document formatting. |
You will
need to open each document and click on the HTML Editor, and use it to
re-format you documents. |
|
| There is no ask a Question for
Each Document. |
We
suggest you create a discussion forum within each Lessons Module and
use the following text in the directions as an example of how to
maintain the functionality of Ask A question. This is where you can ask your fellow classmates, including your instructor, questions about any learning activity contained in this learning module folder. Experience has taught us that your fellow classmates are an invaluable resource to draw upon, and are capable of answering most of the questions someone would have. moreover, there is a good chance that any question you may have will have already been posted and answered here. So be sure to read all the existing posts before making a new post yourself. If you have a question about any learning activity contained within this learning module, this is the place you should post this question to first. It is very important, however, that you include name of the learning module activity you have a question about in the subject field so that everyone will know what activity you are talking about and be as specific as possible when framing your question. Be sure to check this discussion forum regularly. |

| There is No Meet Your Classmates |
We
suggest you create a Meet Your Classmates discussion forum at the Top
of the Lessons Tab and
use the following text in the directions as an example of how to
maintain the functionality of Meet Your Classmates. You
will also need to modify your Your Next Documents accordingly. Meet Your Classmates is an area for you to introduce yourself to the class and where you get to know your fellow classmates. To do this you will first click on the words New Post from the menu above. You will then type in your name in the Subject Field. Next you need to provide your classmates with information about yourself in the Message Field. This Message Field should contain, but is not limited to, the following information: 1. Provide a short biography about yourself (between 100 and 200 words). 2. Tell us why you are taking this course. 3. Tell us what you expect to get out of this course. Your profile will help us get to know each other and begin to build a sense of class community, so please feel free to personalize your profile and add a link to your favorite web site, or attach a digital image of yourself. When you are finished entering your information in the Message Field, click on the Post Button located at the bottom of the screen. Everyone should make their initial Meet Your Classmates posting ASAP, preferably, right now. As initial postings are entered in the Meet Your Classmates Discussion area, you job is to go and and read them all. You need to read every posting and reply that is entered here. That is how we are going to get to know each other better. Finally, you will be required to reply to the postings of at least two of your classmates. To do this you will need to: 1. Open the posting by clicking on the Student name that has been entered in the Subject Field. 2. Read the posting 3. Click on the word Reply located at the bottom of the screen. 4. Enter a Subject for you Reply. 5. Enter your Reply message. 6. Click on the Post Button located at the bottom of the screen. This exercise will not only allow you to get to know each other, but it will also help you understand and build the on-line discussion forum skills needed to be successful in this class. Now get to work. |

| There is no Bulletin Board. |
We
suggest you create a Bulletin Board discussion forum at the Top of
the Lessons Tab and
use the following text in the directions as an example of how to
maintain the functionality of Meet Your Classmates. You
will also need to modify your Your Next Documents accordingly. The Bulletin Board is a discussion area for our class outside the context of a particular course module. Just as you have the opportunity to talk or chat with each other or with me when taking a conventional classroom course, you should also have the opportunity to do the same in a web course. The Bulletin Board is available only to students enrolled in this class to post and/or read messages and respond. These can include questions or comments to other students and me about course material, assignments, readings, etc. It is also a place where you can go to socialize and have open discussion on subjects of your interests. |

| Modify Your Next Steps |
The Your
Next Steps document contains wording very specific to SLN, and has no
meaning in ANGEL. Below you will find suggested Your Next Steps
wording based on the Meet Your Classmates and Bulletin Board
Recommendations outlined above.Note To Instructors – This
document is to be
used as a guideline, it will need to be modified to meet your specific
class
structure and requirements. You are free
to choose any or all of the options listed below.
YOUR NEXT STEPS
There are
Four Things You
Need to Do Prior To Working On Any Course Content Learning Activities.
1) Participate In The Meet
Your Classmates
Discussion Forum Meet Your Classmates is an discussion
forum for you to
introduce yourself to the class and where you can go to meet the others
that
are in this course. The profile you will enter there will help us
get to
know each other and begin to build a sense of class community, so
please feel
free to personalize your Meet Your Classmates discussion forum profile
and add
a link to your favorite web site, or attach a digital image of yourself. The Meet Your Classmates Discussion Forum Can
Be Found By Clicking on the Lessons Tab. Once
you have entered the Meet
Your Classmates Discussion Forum, follow the directions provided there. 2) Create
A Course Roster
Personal Profile The Course Roster is under the Communicate Tab. The Course Roster provides a list of your fellow students and your instructor. You can learn more about the people enrolled in this course by clicking on each person's profile. Your task is to create your own profile. To post information in your profile: ·
Click on
the Preferences
icon · Under General User Settings click Personal Information. · Complete the About Me section. Tell us all a little bit about yourself, and why you're taking this course. *Note: if you are enrolled in more than one pilot
course, you
only need to do this task once. *Note:
you can use the information you entered in the Meet Your Classmates
Discussion
forum here. Just copy and paste it. 3) Visit
The Bulletin
Board The Bulletin Board is a discussion area for our class
outside the
context of a particular course module. Just as you have the opportunity
to talk
or chat with each other or with the instructor when taking a
conventional
classroom course, you should also have the opportunity to do the same
in a web
course. The Bulletin Board is available only to students enrolled in
this class
to post and/or read messages and respond. These can include questions
or
comments to other students and me about course material, assignments,
readings,
etc. It is also a place where you can go to socialize and have open
discussion
on subjects of your interests. I may use this area to make
announcements during
the semester, so be sure to check it every time you "come to class."
The Bulletin Board Discussion Forum Can Be Found By Clicking on the
Lessons Tab. Once you have entered the
feel free to post
an item to start a discussion, or read other students' postings, if
there are
any, and make replies. 4) Send
Course Mail You can use Course Mail to communicate privately with me, as well as communicate publicly with your classmates. Your task is to send me a private greeting using course mail. To create a private course mail message to your instructor: · Click on the Communicate Tab and select Course Mail. · To send a message to your professor, select from the recipient list (to send to the entire class, select “Entire Class” from the recipient list) and then click on the “To” button. · Fill in the subject line and compose a message. Tell me what your learning goals are for this class. · Click on the “Send” button when you’re ready to send your message. Check your Course Mail later for a reply from
your instructor. When
you have completed
these Four tasks, you are ready to begin the first module of the
course. |
|
| Private Folder Problems |
The
Private Folder is not a feature of ANGEL. It is recommended that
you delete this folder from your course. Instead, ANGEL uses Course
email for private communication between the instructor and students,
and even between students. You should also replace any
directions/instructions in your class on using the private folder with
directions/instructions on using the course email. Further
documentation about how to organize your course email to better
facilitate this communication is coming shortly. |
|
| Tabbed Tabled Don't Work |
Tabbed
Tables is a Lotus Notes only feature that cannot be duplicated outside
of using the Lotus Notes Client, and therefore will never be available
in ANGEL. |
|
| Internal Linking Problems when
the document you are linking to has the exact same name as another
document in your course. |
Internal
links to pages with the same name appeared to confuse the
translator as it did not know which page to go to, so a list of all
pages with the same name appeared when the links were
activated. Peter notes: "You'll find that the link
ANGEL
sets up for you is based upon a search query, not upon the destination
page's ID. If you click on the link, you'll get a menu of
matching
documents instead of a direct hit on the document. This will
happen
whenever the search term finds a match on more than a single
title.
This isn't a technical problem with conversion, so much as a shift from
the way things get done in SLN. ANGEL manages links via searches, and
duplicated page names will invariably cause an intermediate search
results list to turn up. So when you see this, you need to change the name of the document you are linking to, then go back and re-create the link. |
|
| Conversion of material within script, embed, or object tags are potentially problematic. | Every
page
containing such tags will have to be manually tested and potentially
rewritten to ensure that they work with ANGEL. |
|
| Internet Explorer has problems with the use of embed tags in discussion documents. | This is
not an issue we can fix at our end. If you use embedded tags in
discussion documents and you find they are not working there are two
alternatives. 1. Tell your students to use another browser. 2. Redo you discussion document so as not to include the embedded tags. |
|
| Multi Part Assignments translate as a Quiz. | This is
just stating a fact that you need to be aware of. Instructor
created Directions/Instructions on the use of Multi Part Written
Assignments need to be modified accordingly. |
|
| E-Mail links don't work, they convert as web page links and open to page not found. | These
e-mail links will not to be recreated in ANGEL to fix this problem. |
|
| Quiz feedback does not convert. | If you
use quiz feedback, you will need to re-enter this feedback in ANGEL. |
|
| ALT TAGS are blank after conversion | Lotus
Notes does not export image alt tags so there is no data available for
Conversion Thingy to convert. Image alt tags will have to be manually re-entered to comply with legally mandated accessibility standards. |
|
| My document is missing all the
text after a certain point. |
Missing
text in a document is usually the result of conversion thingy
confusing the text entered with an html tag. So if the instructor
has text that matches some sort of html tag that could cause the
problem. So in essence, conversion thingy is confusing the typed
text with an HTML character that tells conversion thingy to execute an
editing command, which breaks the text. There is nothing we can
do about this since HTML tags are what they are, and some match actual
text characters people will use while they are typing.
There are
two possible ways to deal with this. I will tell you the easy way
first:
Easy
way. Go back to the notes document and copy the text. Then
using the HTML Editor in Angel, remove the existing text and paste the
text you copied from Notes. When you type the text in the HTML
editor, ANGEL knows not to confuse it with an HTML tag.
Hard
way. Go in the message box and find the offending piece of text
that was confused for code and delete. Then open the HTML editor
and type it in again. I would not recommend doing this unless you
are very good at working with HTML code.

| Quizez/Tests need to have the Delivery setting of Scramble the order of choices on questions unchecked. | Conversion Thingy
changes the default quiz setting to scramble the answers. This is
not good since the order of the answer is very important for many
questions. For example you do not want to scramble the answers if
you are dealing with none of the above and/or all of the above
questions. See attachment SCRAM1.JPG to see the default setting that Conversion Thingy Changes See attachment SCRAM2.JPG to see how this causes problems where the order of the answers matter. Moreover, our faculty have been taught to put answer letters in as part of the answer. This causes great confusion when the Angel provided letter no longer matches the letter entered by the instructor from Notes with this forced randomization. See attachment SCRAM3.JPG to see this problem illustrated. Follow these steps to set the default to the normal ANGLE default to not scramble the answers: Open the Quiz Click Settings Click The Delivery Tab Uncheck the Scramble the order of choices on questions box. Click the Save Button. |
